Phx Crit Feb 16

We are getting more TWJ racers to show up every week. Thats great! We had 9 TWJ racers enter the D race. I think? Sorry, if I left anyone out in this blog. Steve B. jumped out in front early. He was leading the pack for several laps in the beginning. Andy made several attacks off the front throughout the race. Nice job guys. Travis, Jim, Charlie, Alex, Nicole, and Trish did well. Travis improved significantly compared to last week. Trish had the burning lungs like I did in my first crit race. That means you worked hard. Nice job. I managed to get 5th place this week. Thanks, Jim. Jim and I have been working together every race. I waited too long to move up in the last two laps. I am learning something new every week. The team mostly raced as individuals. We would probably win the race if we worked as a team. The next Tue Phx crit race is March 2. Hope to see you there. Feb 23 is cancelled.

  1. March 2 I am going to attack at the start to see if I can get a gap...will need a TWJ teammate to help me. I tried it last race but I couldn't get the guy behind me to work. If I can get a gap I'm going to go balls to the wall (that's technically an aviation term I believe so don't anyone get offended)...if not, I'll drop back and work for MM or anyone else who thinks they can win. If anyone gets a chance, read the Training article in the recent Road magazine written by my coach Scott Saifer. He details proper preparation, starting procedure and strategy for crit racing as a team.

  2. I think that is an excellent idea. The race will be counter clockwise on March 2. The last corner before the finish line is the best place to attack. It's slighly up hill. The corner is also the sharpest. We should send two guys with you. Pace line immediatley after you get the gap. Someone needs to stay back and block for you on that corner. Maybe some extra braking on that corner will help you with the gap. The race is 20 laps according to Travis's garmin data. We need to decide when to try the attack. Maybe lap 10? Let some of our competitors pull for a while. Then attack!
