TWJ -TT Challenge!

Hi Team,
Below is a fantastic ride idea from Jim Vidler . We can incorporate this into our Saturday ride for those of you who want to get some TT practice. We are thinking of trying it on May 1st. So for those of you who have TT bikes bring them to the Saturday ride, May 1st (if you want to).

Here's the idea:
I've never done ride planning so this may be a stupid idea, but here it is:
Our normal Usery ride, Usery-Bush Hwy-Kong, whatever that ride is called. But we take it easy to the Usery-Bush Hwy intersection and start there for a some time trial practice. The route would be from there to Redmont, which is the entrance to Red Mountain Ranch. No stop signs, lights, etc. for 6.5 miles. There used to be a time trial that went from the intersection to the canal and back. I think it was the state championship one year. I wouldn't want people doing a turn-around on a course that wasn't patrolled though. So I think just going to Red Mountain Ranch is a better idea for an unofficial ride.
Basically, everybody would time themselves on the honor system. Start your watch when you leave, stop when you hit the intersection. If I remember correctly there is a grass patch right there at Red Mountain where people could wait for everyone to finish.
If someone on the club ride doesn't want to time trial, just keep riding through to the time trial end and wait. Since we wouldn't be real official we could send people off in 15-20 second intervals. It would only take a few minutes to get everyone going. We usually wait that long at the intersection anyway.
If people remember their time we can aggregate them at the end of the ride and post them online so people get an idea where they are at.
Of course there would be some serious bragging rights involved for the fastest time too. Do this once or twice a year for an unofficial TWJ TT Champ.
Maybe it's just me, but I got this idea because I would like some TT practice but I'm still chicken to do a "real" one.

  1. Jim you might also want to try Coleen WH Mem. TT series on 4/17. They have a Mercx clas you can race in if you don't have a TT bike. The Mercx class only allows standard road bikes with no aero bars. The riders are not allowed to wear skinsuits or aero helmets. It is a great way to try a TT out. I know Nathan and I are planning to ride this TT.
